Laura,
Surgeon told her she would not be able to BF for at least 48
hours (AARGH).
Midwives are advising her on the truth of that statement
if the surgery goes well (Laparoscopic). But they wanted to know if I
could find anyone willing to donate EBM or serve as "wet nurse" "just in
case." I sent out emails to the several yahoo groups I belong to in the
area and made a few phone calls

WHAT TRUTH??!!!
Yes, it's good news to see that mothers are willing to donate milk, BUT....

Just wondering what the rationale is for NOT breastfeeding?

Why do we have babies to the breast within an hour of a C-section and yet
not after laparoscopic surgery??

Is the incision not protected from the baby? Is the weight of the baby in
her arms ( football hold, sidelying can be substituted) too stressful for the
incision??

Pain meds? Morphine is fine for a breastfeeding woman.
Anti-nausea meds? Don't last 48 hours!! I think it's four hours for these.

Do these midwives really not know of any woman after C-sections not
breastfeeding for 48 hours?
Please suggest to this mother to ask what exactly it is that they are
doing/using that precludes breastfeeding, because I can't think of anything.
