The thought of the hospital using DumDum lollipops for pain relief gives
me the screeching heebie-jeebies!!! I've had those lollipops and 1)
They have both artificial flavoring and coloring to boot, neither of
which, IMO, are a good thing to be giving to a newborn and 2) The sucker
part of the lollipop is rather easy to separate from the stick... if a
baby were really going to town sucking on it, you can probably imagine
the consequences if he managed to dislodge the sucker part. Trying to
clear the baby's airway during the circumcision could be challenging
depending on which step the doctor is at. What on earth is their
rationale for using an ultra-cheap lollipop and did they check at all
with their risk management people before implementing that practice?
