Well, now I've gone and done it. I am seriously behind on LN's because of
being very busy at work. Today I need the comraderie. I finally p*****
off the medical director of our nursery enough to get kicked off the unit.
What did I do? I confronted the Ross rep to ask if he had an appointment
on our unit (he had an arrangement to see the administrative secretary to
drop off a paper. He was still in violation of our corporate policy.) and
he was not nice to me, ending the conversation by telling me he'd be sure
to let the medical director know that I was doing a good job of policing
things there. Of course he meant it as a threat, meaning the director has
become his buddy. Sure enough, within an hour, the director was in my
office (his office is across campus) to reprimand me for being rude to the
rep. I explained that Purchasing had thanked me for caring and were
planning on calling the rep in to talk to him (again! This wasn't his
first infraction by a long shot). Now, because I didn't apologize or act
contrite, but tried to tell him my side (which, BTW he didn't ask for) he
called my manager and wanted me out. Darn my mouth, that won't let me speak
an insincere word and darn that rep, who appears to have more power in my
own hospital than I do (guess I should have been bringing the Med Dir.
gifts!)and darn the ignorance and the good 'ol boy network and the
marketing tactics that have allowed a sales rep to become 'best buds' with
a Med. Director. Oh well, haven't lost my job yet but then, the splatters
haven't all landed yet (from the meconium hitting the fan). Maybe a
lawsuit or a tv news expose is what it's going to take! For now, I am at
home waiting for my management to sort things out. Hence, the different
email address!
BTW, what ever happened with the story Dateline was going to do a year or
so ago about pediatricians or physicians being influenced by formula
companies? I never saw any more about it. I emailed them and they wanted
me to call them back but I was afraid I'd lose my job if they profiled the
hospital I called them about (my sister hospital. Home of my medical
director, who would probably guess where they got the info or blame me for
it regardless!)

Marsha, who is not looking forward to a meeting with my manager tomorrow.
