I've had 2 moms who pumped long term. One had a baby with a severely
compromised heart and every cc had to be accounted for (This was in days
before neat scales). She pumped baby's total supply for 9+ months. The
other mom had oroboobular disproportion (double nipples in a sort of
sidelying figure 8 shape). She pumped for 6 mo or so. Breast milk and it's
benfits were extremely important to these moms. I could only praise the
effort that I know this took. Breast milk pumping is a real chore and
requires a certain element of dedication and love. I, too, am sure that a
good LC would only try and help a mom reach her goals without judgement of
her reasons. We never know how these things play out in the future, as
sense of accomplishment, healing, maturing, power are imparted to the mom.
Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
