I am not sure there is much information on this (perahps the pharmacist or
one of the MDs-particularly into infectious disease issues can help with
this) issue, but I do feel it is a prudent idea for all pump parts that
touch mother's skin or the milk should be boiled if they have been borrowed
from someone else before the second party uses them.

It is my understanding that HIV is a fragile virus. It certainly is killed
by boiling, and I doubt it lives long on a non-living element, but I would
not want to take a chance.  Hepatitis is another matter.

Persons out there familiar with both of these entities and the degree to
which they can be transfmitted through plastic use are encouraged to reply
for the enlgihtenment of all of us!  :-)
