I have been nomail for a looooong time. Dawn, baby and mum *must, must,
must* be treated together. They re-infect each other otherwise. The words
your client uses to describe what she is feeling, as far as the pain is
concerned, are words used *specifically* and universally by anyone with
thrush on their breasts. These words have been collected by two UK
lactnetters more qualified than I to talk about Thrush. Diflucan is used in
high doses neonatally in most hospitals. Have you discussed with mum that
she *must* put on the hottest wash she can, her bras, any clothing that gets
wet with breastmilk or bedding, any face cloths, towels. She could also then
rinse all these items in a dilute vinegar rinse. She should *not* share any
towelling with any other family member. To dry each breast with separate,
previously boiled cloths that go straight away into the next boil wash. To
boil for no less than 20 minutes all teats/nipples/baby soothers or steam
sterilise them. For her to wash her hands and fingers well after going to
the loo or changing baby's nappy/diaper. Baby might also have a sore bot -
again a sign of thrush.
In haste, going to be late for work
Kind regards, Helen Woodman, NCT BfC, Storrington, West Sussex UK
