Thanks to all who responded to my post about the mom with bleeding
nipples from the pump. I had gone in on Saturday and showed her how to
use our M******* electric pump and she did fine. Sunday, she was fine.
Sunday night, I got the call about the bleeding and blisters (ouch) .
The nurse who called said that mom would give her breasts a break during
the night and try again in the morning. When I arrived Monday morning,
she had the pump put together wrong with an extra ring on it to increase
suction and once we put it together correctly, no more problems. Poor
mom. I do get to attend the staff meeting this afternoon to
re-inservice them on the pump.
Thanks again
Stephanie
BTW Mom learned another important thing after this incident. She put
her colostrum on her nipples after the pump "bit her" and by Monday
morning they were healed. Aaah the healing power of breastmilk. If she
wasn't sold on how good her milk was for the little guy, she is now.
