It might be possible for nurses anywhere out there to apprendice with a LC
and receive graduate credit at the same time. Grad students in
maternal-child studies at Wichita State University have the option of doing
clinicals with LCs for their practicum. For 3 hours credit they spend
about 90 hours in direct care, the remainder of the total 135 hrs required
is spent in classroom or preparation. They must also do a home visit and
case study. It works nicely and allows the individual student to
"specialize" in lactation without having to set up a special curriculum. If
any faculty would like more info, contact me.
