I have seen the packaging and inserts for the Bliss Gripe Water and it says
specifically to give no more than 4 doses per day and for babies less than 1
month the dosage is 2.5ml Since most people wouldn't be giving this to a
newborn with a stomach the size of a walnut (at least if an LC is involved),
but rather to a baby more than 2 weeks old who is taking 2-4 oz at a feeding
I hardly think 2.5ml will affect the amount of breastmilk a baby transfers.
There is also a warning regarding allergies and against giving to babies
with renal disease.

I agree with those who state that we need to be aware of altering the baby's
intestinal flora; however, what do Zantac and Reglan and Simethecone do to
these baby's systems? What about Tylenol? I think we need to keep it in
mind, try to avoid introducing anything but breastmilk, but not become so
dogmatic and rigid that we refuse to help a mother because it might
introduce something foreign into the baby's stomach. I agree with the point
another poster made that if a mother is throwing in the towel because her
baby is so fussy I'll consider something like this.

Regarding the WHO code, please, lets take a deep breath here (don't forget
to let it out). This is not a breastmilk substitute any more than
Simethecone or Tylenol. Calling it food is going to extremes, imo. Bottom
line for me is that I'll suggest something if it works. I'm intelligent and
responsible enough to consider all factors in a case (as I'm sure most of us
on this list are).
