I had at least two responses when I read the post. First, I'm always
learning and if I missed something, *please* do me (and everyone) a favor
and tell me I missed the boat. Sometimes I even know I missed something, I
just can't figure it out.
Second, sometimes mothers leave and I'm pretty sure they didn't hear what I
was trying to say. That's when I'm glad I work with someone else and can
ask moms to come back (and let someone else give it a go). So once again,
*please* tell me. I certainly don't want mothers suffering (literally and
figuratively) due to miscommunication.
And then I thought that I'm really thankful for the persistence of mothers.
How would any of us be where we are today, how would our profession be where
it is, if it were not for the willingness of someone to say, "You know, I
tried what you said and it didn't work. What else can I do?" How would we
know that certain interventions work were it not for finding that others do
not? Some of what we do is caught not taught, and it's the mothers that
help us "get it."
