Someone at the clinic today GLEEFULLY showed me the Spanish version of
the American Dental Association pamphlet re: baby bottle mouth. The
pamphlet cautions that an extended breastfeeding session has the same
hazards as giving juice or other sweet liquids when the baby/child is
going to sleep. I'm sure it's the same in the English version. She was
very disappointed at my reaction: I told her I'd heard about it. She was
hoping that I would get upset and crazy since she thinks breastfeeding is
gross and disgusting. Fortunately this employee has limited contact with
patients in the clinic. I told her I disagreed, and she raised an
eyebrow and said YOU disagree with the ADA? Luckily my supervisor also
said she disagreed!
Has anyone else seen this pamphlet, either in English or Spanish? The
woman asked me, Why would the ADA say it then? Very Good Question, Eh?
Why indeed.
