From Anne Stiller 2/20:
<<This MD told me today that Diflucan is far too strong
 to be used during BF.>>

One of the OB's I deal with had been difficult to cajole into prescribing
Diflucan (fluconazole) when I wanted him to. He was nervous about liver
problems that had been reported, so if the mom had a family doc he prefered
to pass the buck and have me contact them. If mom had no family doc, he
was in a good mood that day, and I whined enough, I could usually get him
to prescribe. Anyway, the point of this is--the other day he told me the
drug rep had been in and assured him that fluconazole really is safe to
prescribe in the doses and length of time I'd been asking for, that the
liver problems were very rare, and that basically now he was comfortable
with it. Now, of course I'd already given him the info from Hale and stuff
from Kay Hoover, but it wasn't until he talked to the drug rep that he
believed it!

So perhaps you could ask the MD to contact the drug rep for "the most
up-to-date information." I'm sure the rep would tell him that it's being
used in much higher doses in infants, also. It's a route I had never
considered, but hey--whatever works!
