Rachel: Thank you for your post. When I read the negative responses to my
post informing others of this on-line quiz, I immediately went back and
relooked at the quiz. I thought others were finding a different quiz than
the one I found! I am impressed with the breastfeeding knowledge that this
doctor assumes from the general public. I also got 2 answers wrong,
because, I read too much into the questions. One of the questions I got
wrong was the one on AAP recommmendations on how long mothers should
nurse. Every pediatrician I know has conveniently "whited out" the rest of
the sentence after "breastfeed for the first 12 months" which, of course
is, "for as long as the mother and baby desire". In the US, it is almost
the universal recommendation that mothers wean at 1 year. And those that
question the ped about the 2nd half of that sentence, they are told that
there is no need to go longer. I did get a laugh out of one the answer
choices that the pediatrician "tolerate breastfeeding"!
I gave a copy of the quiz to my 5 nurses that I am training and they were
surprised at the difficulty of the questions. Their homework? Look up the
answers and read why the answers are correct as well as why the incorrect
answers are incorrect.
