I am interested in having a presence on facebook for a slightly different reason. First let me share with you all that I have created a social network on Ning.com (an Internet place similar to facebook) called "Breastfeeding As Cultural Norm." Like Lacnet, it is a private network. Unlike Lacnet, it has many of the same features as a facebook page or site. I'm happy to invite anyone interested in breastfeeding advocacy to contact me off list and I will send you an invitation from the site. Or if anyone would like more information about the purpose of "BACN" I can share that, too.

Having said that, because the Ning.com site is a private network there is a lot of great information the general public does not know about. As for facebook, I know there are anti-formula groups on facebook (I belong to the Boycott Nestle one), an LLLI group, a World Breastfeeding Week group, etc. but I've often thought there should be a general public place that explains all the interesting things I see coming from Lactnet posts each day - marketing tactics, the loss of understanding that nursing one's baby is a total experience, lobbying tactics, links to articles and studies, and so on and so on.

Is there interest in co-administrating such a group with me on facebook? We could call it "breastfeeding as the cultural norm" or anything else that might make sense and/or attract participation.

I look forward to your thoughts.
