While I was at the vet's with my dog today, I heard a good lactation story
(dog). A breeder of Golden Retreivers owned the Grandmother dog, and the
Mother dog who recently gave birth to a litter. The Grandmother dog
re-lactated and helped her daughter nurse her new litter. The Grandmother
apparently had as much milk as the Mother and even helped nurse a litter of
Rottweiler pups whose mother did not produce milk.
Now, if dogs and dog breeders realize that species-specific milk is optimal,
why can't people be as smart?
