Suzanne,
I found some many years ago in Tasmania where I was working, that Carnation
put out TV add, then a leaflet in Supermarket about using their liquid milk
and referred at the bottom in miniscule writing 'to going to your health
sister (I think that's how it read) for the formula for your age baby'.
I had just not as I originally thought a mentally compromised little mum
come in, with a vomiting baby having blood in her stools but within the
month 'a string(the same) who fed their babies on pure Carnation Milk( from
the can into the bottles)! We had GI disturbances++ and only visiting Doctor
of the town called for all new mum's to come to the surgery for him to
straighten out this problem. It took some convincing as they saw it on
TV!!!!!
Amazing the gullibility of Mum's trying to do what the adverts say is good!
My Penny worth!

Subject: Formula Fed Babies have problems, too

Dear Lactnetters:
I just had to respond to this string. I worked as an Advice Nurse on the
phones for a very large HMO in my area. One of our nurses received a call
from a father stating that their newborn was very sick with GI disturbances.
The nurse asked the standard questions and then questioned him about feeding
methods. After a while, she found out that the parents were giving the baby
undiluted formula! Can you imagine how bad this little baby must have felt?
I can't remember the outcome--I know she sent the baby to the doctor. It is
nice to know that mother's milk doesn't have to be fixed before feeding.
