Dear Colleagues,

I leave Saturday for four weeks in Penang at WABA. They wrote from the
Secretariat to tell me that a local employer whose establishment makes
medical supplies asked them for advice about becoming a breastfeeding
friendly employer. The WABA folks said, "Oh, we have an expert coming next
month. We'll set up an appointment for her to meet with you!" So now I'll be
the visiting expert....eeeek.

I know the theory, of course, but what I'd like to know more about is what
practical ways there are to manage letting someone take a break if it
affects the flow of work--an assembly line, for instance, or some kind of
team where every member has a quota to meet. There's also the question of
being fair if part of a worker's pay is by the piece, because workers who
are expressing milk probably won't turn out as many pieces.

So how about it, Lactnetters? Especially you from California, where the new
standards for worksite breastfeeding support must be making a lot of people
grapple with questions like these. Do any of you have instructive stories to
tell?

I'll be reading Lactnet every day except Sundays and during the 30+ hour
travel time.

Chris
