Dear Pat,
Is the baby getting anything besides mother's milk yet, such as baby
cereal? Some butter could be added to that. How old is this baby?
What is this mother's aversion to pumping? Some extra hindmilk,
skimmed from a pumping, would made an ideal supplement. Would she like
to hand express?
Would a manual pump be more her style?

My 3rd baby had low weight gain, after one month of adding butter
to her cereal, on the advice of a LLL friend, she did gain weight. After
that, I thought why fatten her up 'artificially', and changed
pediatricians! I got one who had 3 small sons and had no problem at all
with my baby's rate of gain. She is almost 8 now and still on the tiny
side. If she had been my first instead of 3rd child I would have felt
much worse about my mothering skills.
