I'd like to clarify my comments, Jaye. The chain of events we have is that
the grandmother noticed something that worried her,
spoke to her son about the issue & didn't like the answer. This is where I
see a breach of privacy. The grandmother is asking a HCP to consult her
colleagues on behalf of a 3rd party, without express permission of the 3rd
party.
The assumptions I'm making about the grandmother are the result of the
language used in the original post. The GM is not wondering about what
effect alcohol may have on the baby, she's worried about the mother making
the baby an addict. The last 2 sentences seem especially telling. The GM
is unhappy that her son defended his wife. The GM is being painted as a
victim- "she moved to be closer to her son", etc. I find this language
manipulative.
When considering the ethics of a situation, I always try to imagine my
feelings in a similar situation. If I knew that my MIL had initiated a
discussion such as this, I would be appalled. The party in question, the
mother, has not given her permission for this to be discussed.
