From my personal experience with my own son (Brandon, CHARGE syndrome), oral
aversion seems to increase after a surgery. He just had his testes descended
yesterday, and between the sore throat from the ventilator, oxygen masks,
and all the medicine getting put in his mouth, he is also very skittish. I'm
not sure what other parts of the sequence this baby has, but if she has any
sensory issues, oral defensiveness can certainly be part of it. Hopefully, the
good suggestions about nursing will help this baby get more comfortable!

Challenging feeding may be a part of the surgery picture for this family,
it certainly has been for us! We have found that once we are home, and he is
totally recovered from anesthesia that Brandon is mostly back to normal. With
his heart issues and low tone, it sometimes takes him several days to get
back to normal nursing, and I just have to go back to the basics (skin to skin,
swaddling, etc). In the meantime, I just try not to panic!
