Mary Kay,
I work in a Medical Center with 2 campuses. Combined we do approx 200 deliveries per month.
Our lactation program serves both sites. We have 60 hours per week for lactation, and we definetly
feel like we could use more. We see outpatients as well as inpatients. We do not currently charge
for the consultations for moms who deliver at one of our sites. There is a charge for consults who
delivered at ohter hospitals. This charge is about $45 for a one hour visit. We have explored the
possiblity of charging for outpatient consultations, but have not made any decisions. Our Home
Medical Supply handles the pump rentals and sales (except on off hours when we do it). They
handle all the billing, money collecting, ect. I like it that way because I like to help moms breastfeed
but I hate collecting money from people! I hope this is helpful. You can email me if you need
more specifics.
