Remember too that most boys in hospitals were circumcised, which would
impede breastfeeding and consequently raise bilirubin levels.
I've had the experience that when I'm assisting with an initial proper latch
soon after birth (within 1-2 hrs.) and babies gulp-down colostrum as a result
of a "good" latch, that the impact of a circumcision doesn't cause these
babies to have the typical sleepiness after circumcisions. I'm just curious if
anyone else has noticed this. The moms and the hospital staff are stunned that
the babies continue to breastfeed effectively.
