Hello all,

Have any of you ever had a baby who suddenly increased his stool frequency
and whose stool were green and watery (much like foremilk/hindmilk
inbalance) after mother started Fenugreek?

I am working with a mother who started the herb (she is taking 2 capsules 3
times a day) in order to increase her pump yields while at work so that she
could avoid formula supplementation.  Baby has suddenly developed the green,
watery stools.

I have read all the articles on Fenugreek use and know it can sometimes
cause diarrhea for the mother.  I have had one other mother in my practice
who reported that she also thought it caused green, watery stools in her
baby, but this doesn't appear to be that common. Huggins' article states NO
side effects for the baby.  In my search of the archives, I found lots on
Fenugreek, but no relation to green stools in the baby.

Any thoughts?  What would your recommendations be to the mother ? I have
already advised making sure the baby nurses long enough on one side to reach
the hindmilk.  He is currently nursing about 30 minutes on one side about
every 3 hours and this was his current pattern anyway.
