Hi everyone. What Cynthia describes sounds closer to obsessive-compulsive
behavior, as she herself suggests, than depression. It disturbs me to think
that "sadness" (and this mom sure has enough on her plate to make her feel
this way!) be taken as clinical depression and treated
pharmacotherapeutically. Isn't this the good old quick fix? Her behavior
as Cynthia describes it is not the behavior of a depressive. Frankly, I
would be a bit leery of a psychiatrist stepping in at this point. If I'm
stepping on any psychiatric toes, I apologize, and if there's some
problem of negligence, well, forget what I wrote. Being from outside the
US, the whole defensive medicine thing befuddles me. Let us know,
Cynthia. Judy K.
