That did sound pretty awful. I still cannot quite understand the
anti-attachment mentality of our society. Why are SO many people afraid of
being close to their babies. Beyond abused people who may have real issues
to deal with, what about mentally healthy people who just don't want to be
close to their kids. What is happening?

My in-laws were visiting us at our new home this past weekend and I did
refrain from nursing my twin toddlers in front of them but did nurse the
babies individually in the living room when they were around. When the
babies would whine and want to nurse I could feel all eyes on me. I know
they don't understand or approve but that is their problem. My mother-in-law
has been quite upfront about how she only nursed for six months and then on
to solids and my SIL nursed all of her kids somewhere between 6 weeks and 6
months but always with supplementing. Kind of an awkward situation but makes
me think about they are like so many folks who are just plain clueless and
may very well stay that way forever. :(
