I have also seen this in women with PTL. It is dangerous to suggest hand
expression or nipple stimulation of any kind if this lady has
experienced PTL strong enough to require hospitalization. Perhaps she
can use cabbage or ice packs? that's what we have used here in the
hospital. it is possible it is generalized edema and that can be checked
out by testing over the ankle bone. If it pits, it's edema. Be aware
too, that swelling of the face and hands in pregnancy is Never normal
and needs attention from the MD. Most likely it's the result of the meds
used to stop labor.
