Heather confessed:

<< One night this summer, I woke up to find my 19 (yes, 19) -year-old daughter
trying to get into bed with me because 'she didn't feel too good' and
'needed a hug'. I gave her the hug but I'm afraid I got her to go back to
 her own bed after that....call me hard-hearted ; ) >>

I talk about co-sleeping and answer the questions about "bad habits" and
ALWAYS having to sleep with the adults with a cavalier -- "well, you know
they'll be out of your bed by the time they are in high school."

I recant and apologize to one and all for my cavalier attitude.

Not too long ago, Timothy, age 15, and about a hair under 6' tall, came to
our door (we keep our door open all night -- holdover, I suppose, from the
days in which the kids WERE in their own beds and we wanted to be able to
hear them, even though now Tim is the only one (currently) at home. "I can't
sleep" he said, in a very sleepy voice, indicating he had been asleep, just
couldn't remember it. "Sweetie," I said, "Just go back to bed, you'll be
fine, and you'll go to sleep." Apparently he took that as an invitation --
so crawled into bed between dh and me (his usual spot), and fell sound asleep
within seconds.

Now, we do have a queen sized bed, but let me tell you, it isn't big enough
for three adult - sized folks. But y'know -- having Tim feel comfortable
enough to come into bed with us -- at the age of 15 when most kids wouldn't
be caught dead even looking as though they have parents, warmed the cockles
of my heart.

Now if only someone could tell me what the cockles of my heart were, my day
would be complete. After all, the 20/20 commentary did not cause me to take
either Valium or Dramamine. Though if they had asked me, I would have said
things slightly differently.

But no one asked!! Funny thing about that!

Jan Barger -- hoping someday to be as world renown as our own Kathy Dettwyler
so that someone WILL ask her opinion on something!!
