i had a woman come into my clinic today mildly complaining of 'some' pain during breastfeeding. when i asked to see how she was going about it, i was shocked to see her entire chest area covered in an angry red rash. both brests were hard and red. i assumed there was mastitis (though she had no fever and felt pretty good) and referred her to her physician. i cannot exlain the rash? she was worried that she may have done harm to her baby by nursing her, i adamantly assured her that no harm was done (correct?) but that she sould seek medical help. gerri r.n.
