I am working with a mom that has a baby with a severely short
frenulum. She is in England and we have been corresponding since the
baby was born (July 4) about this. It has taken her until 2 weeks
ago to get a visiting nurse convinced that her baby had a problem so
that she could get a recommendation to a doctor who had to see her
and agreed that the baby had a short frenulum and referred her to a
surgeon who she saw today who has scheduled the "surgery" for January
6th. (The baby will be 6 months old at the time!) Anyway (after
that lovely run on sentence), she is very committed to breastfeeding,
but is having lots of problems with supply and soreness. Aside from
the usual things for helping to increase and maintain supply is there
anything (exercises, etc.) that she can do with the baby to ease the
soreness? Can any of you think of a way that she may be able to get
this procedure moved up on the calendar? Is anyone on here from
England who might be able to give some insight why this is taking so
long? She wants to allow the baby to self wean, but she is having to
rely more and more on supplementation Unfortunately she is a poor
unemployed single mom so going to a private doctor isn't a
possibility for her pocketbook :-(

I'd sure appreciate any information that anyone can send on to help
us make it to the 6th of Jan. (I feel very connected to this young
woman and really want to help her succeed!) I have sent her the
entire passages that I have from the BAB, Sucking Solutions and any
reprints I can find, but we are looking for something that will help
until she can get to where the baby's frenulum can be clipped.

TIA!
