one thing that our hospital has been doing for years and it's helping
with this problem. We are required to "watch" the circ for 30 minutes
after the procedure to check for complications... I have been taking the
baby straight to mom's room to
breast feed and doing my "circ checks" there. I haven't had a baby not
breastfeed since changing where the observations were taking place.

I think it is critical to feed the infant before the circ and right after the
circ.
As many of you are probably aware, studies have demonstrated that "simple"
sugar water helps infants deal with pain much better. Also, after a painful
event, infants can "suffer" hypoglycaemia. In my office, I strongly encourage
my moms to feed their infants shortly before and right after they receive an
immunization, heel stick and such. It seems to help. IMHO
