One of the mothers in our LLL group who has been struggling with a very
fussy baby phoned me yesterday to say that she discovered that the
mini-pill was causing most of her problems. As soon as she stopped taking
it, he was much better. Coincidentally, this occurred at the same time as
the "magic" three month mark, so it could just have been a case of normal
colic.
This baby is also probably allergic (his older sister suffers from asthma)
and the paediatrician told the mother to put him on solids at three months,

as he would cope better with that and with a hypoallergenic ABM than with
her milk. Same paediatrician told her that his wife didn't manage to nurse
either of their babies longer than a month. I'd love to be one of his
patients (I really would - I'd give him plenty to think about).

Rina Groeneveld (who despite her desire to convert all the doctors in town
is not about to move from the breastfeeding-friendly GP she recently
discovered who has managed to keep her child off antibiotics for his first
winter running- that in spite of the fact that he'd been on 5 different
courses by the age of 18 months)
