Winnie states: I can see this may be harder to adjust to for private
practice LCs.

Winnie, though I totally agree with you regarding your comments about
outpatient lactation appointments needing to be fee for service like other therapies,
such as lab draws, I have to comment on your comment about private practice
LCs. The truth of the matter is not private practice versus hospital-based LC.
 It depends on the individual.

I'm a private practice LC who absolutely views fees for service as a
requirement and I will not offer my services for free. I am in business, and though I
relinguished my hospital positions and no longer have an income, forfeiting
all of it for my passion and commitment to serving my community in their
breastfeeding needs, I absolutely feel emphatically that the future of our
profession lies in us all offering our services consistently for a fee. In my
territory it is the hospital-based lactation services that do not charge for services.
It's different in different places, isn't it?

Congratulations Winnie for gaining the ability to come to terms for charging
for your services!
