I just took advantage of the posting that pointed out Dr. Palmer's
website www.brianpalmerdds.com

I encourage others to do likewise.

I tried to emphasize thdental development aspect to a client last month,
and I wish now I had given her Dr. Palmer's JHL article on "The Influence
of Breastfeeding on the Development of the Oral Cavity: A Commentary". It
speaks much more eloquently than I was able to.

She had the most seriously inverted nipples I have ever seen. After
viewing my slides once again, I would almost have to say "malformed".

Her attempts to breastfeed her first two children were futile, and
bruising to her self-esteem. She had her plan drawn up firmly during
pregnancy, to see that her third baby would get breastmilk for a full
year. She was not open to offers to assist in moving on to direct
breastfeeding.

She bought a double electric pump, and after an emergency C.S., began to
build her supply to feed by bottle. I contacted her recently and she told
me she has now discontinued pumping (at 4 1/2 months) "because of a busy
summer, returning to school, etc." and "besides, she has several freezers
(hers and in-laws) full of milk enough to last for the rest of his first
year."

Getting his mother's milk produced by her breasts at 4.5 months after
delivery when he is 1 year old, has got to be better than AIM, I suppose.

I believe we are seeing a growing # of mothers who certainly value the
product enough to be milk-harvesting, but are not aware of the benefits
of the actual process of direct breastfeeding.

This gives more challenge to us to educate those around us, as Dr. Palmer
is doing.
