I wrote about this two years ago. At the hospital I am
at, we have a lactation educator. She has no
professional background in OB or lactation. She has
taken the 5 day course to become CLC. She functions as
a lactation consultant. She does phone consulting and
outpatient assessments and consulting. I feel this is
scary. I am afraid at some point the hospital will be
held accountable. There are three IBCLC's on staff
which function as staff nurses. I hope we won't be
held accountable for any of her actions.Sometimes, her
teaching is off base.
I just sit back and do my best
