Many of our clients are now being told that they will receive a "shot of
Pitocin" immediately postpartum. They are told it is mandatory. I recall
discussing this before, but I'm having trouble finding anything in the LACTNET
archives. I'm attempting to determine what, if any, affect this has on the
initiation of breastfeeding.

Every mother who delivers in a hospital in the USA and most of the developed
world gets an IV dose of pitocin (not an IM injection) to help decrease blood
loss by contracting the uterus. The cheaper, better way to do this is to put
the baby to the breast immediately!
