I've been saying for several years that it is time for a new childbirth
revolution in the US. My 4th baby was a loving product of attending the
first childbirth classes in southern NJ, choosing dr and hospital carefully.
My daughters reaped some of the benefits of the childbirth revolution in the
early 80's when they had lovely births with midwives, early discharge, home
birth etc. My later grandchildren were products of the epidural routine,
but they did have a doula they thought was great.

My last grandchild, born to a 42 yo first time mother, was told as she came
in the hospital with decels that she'd probably end up with a section. They
gave pit too, but didn't count on me being in her face and coaching through
every contraction. she had a little suction help at the end because of the
decels lasting a little too long, but I know mom feels like she conquered a
mountain. Breastfeeding right away. There is no underestimating what this
does to a woman's self esteem! Of course the baby (now 14 mo) is the
prettiest, smartest baby on the planet :-)

I don't know how to do it. The revolution, that is. We were a product of
the times, the 60-70's, the women's revolution. What can we use to trigger
it this time? Pat in SNJ
