I need help again. It's so great knowing that there is a combined pool of
very knowledgeable people out there who can help a LC intern give good
advise. The docs in my area are great, they have their pts. call me when
there is trouble. I can't find the answers in my books!

Mom called today states "I can't stand it anymore please help or I'll have
to wean." Mom is breastfeeding her third child, baby is 8 mos. old.,
states didn't have any trouble with the others. Her right breast is 2 cup
sizes larger than the left. States started noticing a difference about 2
mos. ago and could kinda fix it by nursing. Now right is noticeably
different and she is uncomfortable with this and embarrassed. Her question
can she get the left breast bigger to match the right one? or is there a
way to have right one shrink? If she weans how does she get baby to take
bottle?

Some history. Normal labor and vag. delivery. States had enough breastmilk
to nurse sextuplets, had some problem with engorgement but cabbage leaves
helped. Mom not taking any drugs. Has never had any breast surgeries,
biopsy or infections.Prior two pregnancies an A cup, enlarges with preg.
and lactation and then returned to normal size. Mom states she has a good
supply and when nursing on left side milk leaks from the right. States left
breast is more her normal size now, but right breast seems to be getting
bigger (2 cup sizes). Dad says wean. Mom is a stay at home and is
committed to nurse to 1 year. Baby prefers right breast. Baby will only
nurse on the left(smaller) one when she is sleepy. When very awake and
hungry refuses to take small one. Baby nurses about 8 times a day, is
eating 2 small meals of baby food per day. Baby was sleeping through the
night is now waking up and nursing once. Baby refuses to take a bottle of
expressed milk. Baby healthy gaining weight well.

If we can get baby to nurse mainly on the left, will supply go down in the
right? Will breast size even out? Can we use cabbage leaves to decrease
supply in right without harming babies intake?

TIA
Sharie
