Just couldn't resist putting my 2 cents in about pacifiers. When I teach my
prenatal BF classes, I sometimes do a little visualization where I have the
parents pretend they have been in a skiing accident in (name of some country
where they are sure not to speak the language). They are in a total body
cast and thirsty. I ask them how they would attract the nurse's attention.
Then I ask them how they would feel if it were not time for them to have a
drink yet and they were just left there to holler. Finally I ask them to
imagine that the nurse brought them an empty glass so that they could pretend
to drink. Guess what???? They get the picture-- a pacifier is like an empty
glass.
