these aren't metaphors, these are analogies. my current fav is this when moms
ask "gosh, will it take a LOOOOOOONG time to fix this problem? (and baby is
ten days old). say you break your leg. you go in and they propose to cast it
and say it will take six weeks to heal enough to take the cast off and then
it will take more time after that. do you look at them and say  "heck no, i
can't wait that long, just cut it off?" when you have a breastfeeding
problem, it may take time to fix but it's worth it (of course what i really
think is unprintable).

ps the loss of 3 IQ points because of cocaine use vs. loss of 8 - 20 due to
not breastfeeding is really going over well. what it does is give the
listener the first thought of how awful it sounds, a mother using cocaine
during pregnancy, then equates the use of formula with the cocaine use - and
its even worse!
