Dear Lyla,

CST works by assuring the integrity of the motion of each individual cranial
bone and the establishment of a balanced cerebrospinal fluid rhythm
throughout the dural system (the coats of the brain and spinal cord, the
meninges, that "contain" the cerebral spinal fluid system). This is done by
using gentle, directional forces into the sutures (direction dictated by the
restriction palpated) or by soft tissue "unwinding" of tension in the dural
membranes or contiguous fascial structures (the delicate membrane that binds
bone, muscle, blood vessels, nerves, etc. together).

An infant's ability to suckle can be altered by the neurologic input that
governs the suckle or rooting reflexes as well as by orthopedic dysfunction
like decreased mandibular range of motion (function of the temporomandibular
joint - boney articulation or muscle action by the muscles of mastication and
facial expression). If CST effectively addresses the movement and
approximation of the cranial bones, not only will you reduce interference to
the neurologic reflexes or muscular tonus affecting the actions of the jaw,
tongue, lips, etc., but you may also alter the shape of the hard palate
(which is made up of the bones of the cranium).

I hope this helps a little bit.
