Dear Leaders,

Medela, Inc. is now marketing bottles and teats as a feeding system apart
from a breastpump which is a violation of the WHO International Code of
Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes supported by La Leche League
International.

The LLLI Board of Directors addressed this issue at its March 2009 Annual
Meeting. The Directors carefully considered the WHO Code and the LLLI Code
of Ethics:

Article 5.3 There should be no advertising or other form of promotion to
the general public of products within the scope of this Code. (WHO
International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes)

3. LLLI shall not enter into sponsorship or endorsement or licensing
agreements with any corporation that violates the International Code nor
accept advertisements or exhibits from such corporations. (LLLI Code of
Ethics: Funding from the La Leche League International Policies Standing
Rules Notebook)

Following these deliberations, LLLI notified Medela, Inc. that, because they
market bottles and teats in a feeding system separate from a breastpump, we
can no longer accept any sponsorships, donations, advertising or exhibits
from Medela, Inc. We understand that this action may impact some Groups and
Areas. Existing contracts will be honored but not renewed. If you need
support regarding any ramifications, please contact your support person.

Sincerely,

Barbara Emanuel, Executive Director, LLLI

Rosemary Gordon, Co-Chair, LLLI Board of Directors

Shirley Phillips, Co-Chair, LLLI Board of Directors
