dawn & friends,
while i appreciate and value what Lamaze International is doing now with
normal birth etc. it is to little to late. where were they 5-10 years ago?
i started a letter writing compaign to Oprah, requesting she do a show on
normal birth.  it was so frustrating to me, that she would make statements like
"and you are going to have an epidural  right?" every time she had a pregnant
woman on her show. i requested Lamaze International, among several other
professional organizations, send letters requesting she do a program on normal
birth. they didn't respond to me. When i started handing out these letters at the
national convention, Lamaze International, finally did post their own letter on
the website.
while i think it is great that Lamaze International is taking a position with
normal birth, i think this is something that should have been done 10 years
ago. Now, epidurals ARE the norm. At this point taking a position, is not as
effective.
I feel as passionate about normal birth as i do about breastfeeding. i
believe in my heart that women miss out on a great experience. I would go thru labor
unmedicated, and breastfeed a zillion babies......it's the teenagers I have
the problem with!!!
