Breast Milk Colitis

99 times out of 100 (I don't want to be dogmatic, moi) this is foreign
protein intolerance to antigen in breastmilk due to 1) maternal
sensitivities because Mum was bottle fed in infancy; 2) in utero
sensitisation because mom allergic and eats foods she's averse/addicted to;
3) neonatal sensitisation due to comp feeds. (They start screaming two
weeks later.)
It's real; its cure is maternal dietary investigation and elimination, and
kids who get swapped to formual because of this do lots worse in either the
short or long run. (Usually after the two weeks or so it takes to mount a
full-on symptomatic allergenic response if this is first exposure to
foreign protein such as soy.) It is exactly the same enterocolitis caused
by bovine or soy protein in formula, and you don't get that called
artificial formula colitis. Wonder why? Maureen
