I have an arrangement with two companies, Apple Computer and The Huntsman
Corp. that involve pre-and postnatal support for breastfeeding. The
Huntsman has only used it a few times as they have a relatively small
population of child-bearing age women, so I'll talk mostly about Apple. I
go out twice a year and give two lunch-time seminars in a private conf.
room. The first is an overview of breastfeeding with time allotted for Q&A.
The second class I talk about returning to work, the logistics of pumping,
and then we tour the breastpumping room that I helped them set up. When the
moms deliver, they can call me for advice or if they need to, arrange a
consultation. Apple pays me for the classes, but the moms pay for the
consultations. The few times The Huntsman has used their program, the
company paid me a fee to do a home visit prenatally to provide education,
and paid for one postnatal consultation to sort out problems. They also
reimbursed for breastpump rental for 6 months.

I have worked with lots of diff. companies in the Austin area, and in my
exper. they all have individual needs. When trying to negotiate, it makes
sense to try to give them what they want than to try to have a
one-size-fits-all approach to what you are offering. See what their needs
are and tailor a program that is right for their company. Some will want to
buy a couple of pumps and establish a pump room. Others might be more
comfortable with each woman having her own pump. Some really want to offer
classes, others don't want strangers on-site and will respond better to
private consultations.
