Off to the hospital library everyone! Contemporary Pediatrics Dec. 98 has
a lead article on BF "The pros (many) and cons (a few) of breastfeeding"
by Drs. Robin Churchill and Larry Pickering from Children's Hospital of
the King's Daughters and Eastern VA Medical School. The cover is a breast
<gasp> with a nutrition label on it. Says: Human Milk Facts; Serving Size
On Demand;
Servings per container Infinite; Amount per serving- Calories as needed;
Total Fat- Not Too Much; Total CHO -Sufficient; Protein -Sufficient;
Infection Fighters: Antibodies, Glycoconjugates, Lipids, Intestinal
Microflora; Anti-inflammatory Factors: Antioxidants, Lactoferrin, Secretory
IgA, Prostoglandins, Tumor Necrosis Factor, Histaminase. Warning:
Breastfeeding may not be advisable for mothers with some viral infections
or while taking some psychotropic and antibiotic medicines. Consult your
physician. Contraindications : lists some, hard to read. Have only
browsed thru, but it looks pretty good and deserves careful reading.
P.S. they even spelled BF right! bet Oski is looking down with pride.
Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
