I have had a couple requests from women who were spontaneously lactating and wanted referrals to a milk bank.  The one I remember most clearly was from a woman who was on Depo-Provera and had recenlty noticed her milk supply increasing -- & had never mentioned this to her HCPs.  I've heard from a few women using Depo-Provera who found themselves leaking (or more), whether or not they had ever had children.  I've seen one situation of a woman spontaneously lactating (not using any birth control) with a complicated history re hormones and conception.

My first thought echoes yours:  she needs medical attention for her own good health.

I suspect if you take a history, you will see some clues pretty quickly.  In fact, some of this history may quickly answer your second question.  (though not in the way I understand you to mean!)  I hope you will update the list as this plays out.

I
am a LC in a large NICU. My manager has recieved an inquiry from a
co-worker who has never had a child or been pregnant who is
"lactating". She wants to pump and donate the result to a milk bank. I
do not know the identity of the woman or anything about her medical
history. My first response was to ask if she has seen her MD about
this. My second question was whether it was wise to encourage further
production by pumping. My question to you is would this milk be of the
quality that would be suitable for donation? Has anyone come across
this request before?
