The mother of the 2 1/2 week old does *not* plan to wean to take Zyrtec, but
*does* want to leave a 4 hour window during which she'll provide milk pumped
earlier in the day. She started doing this when she was on prednisone, last
week. Hale says, "following administration, wait at least 4 hours if
possible prior to feeding infant to reduce exposure," so that's what she
did.
The half-life of prednisone is 3 hours, the peak is at 1-2 hours. The
half-life of Zyrtec is 8.3 hours, the peak is at 1.7 hours. So I suppose,
though it may be less important to do, following the same procedure avoids
the peak of Zyrtec just as well as it avoids the peak of prednisone.
