Hi all,
Have come across a paper of advice from our local dental team aimed at
mothers and babies.
Extracts say things such as:
1. You should wean your baby from breast or bottle to a cup when baby learns
to crawl (7-9 months) or walk (around 12 months)
This will help prevent 'baby bottle tooth decay' (?????)
Signs of readiness to wean include 'fussing' at the breast, 'playing' with
the nipple.
If baby resists your efforts to wean him, offer expressed breast milk or
juice by cup instead of a breastfeed.

2. If you choose to give your baby a dummy (pacifier) consider an
orthodontic shaped one.

Nowhere does it mention to give water in a cup, only expressed breast milk
or juice (Why would you bother expressing for a cup???) Even not being a
dental person, I would feel that water would be the best thing from a
dentists point of view, preventing more caries than (usually sweetened)
juice.

We intend to write to them and ask for their references to support their
claims, then after that, hit them with ours!!
So if anyone has references to support our stand, please send them to me, if
we get a huge list, they may be compelled to rewrite it!
Also maybe they will be not so quick to give out written breastfeeding
advice, leaving that to us!
Thanks for your help
