Kathleen, I have corresponded with Marsha.
This situation is complicated as no overt promotion is taking place.
No education sessions (the formula reps may not speak to staff or have
displays at any time at any place in the hospital). No crib cards, no
posters, no growth charts. No formula packs (not for almost a decade). I
feel it is unethical but I need a good explanation of why. In reality this
is not an unusual situation for this hospital. It DOES have this kind of
agreement with other companies INCLUDING the pump company. This is business
as usual for this and most other hospitals. For example most if not all
hospitals buy their drugs through one drug warehouse, for which they get a
preferred rate. In fact it also buys all of its paper goods from the company
which gives the best package price. They don't see this as any different.
From their point of view we are providing formula to less than 3% of the
mothers...so what is our problem. sigh. Regards Rhoda
