<Anything else we can ask with our phone calls to identify problems?>

Judy,
We created a form for well-baby clinic nurses to use when speaking to
new mothers on the first phone call. It is a tool to help identify red
flags which should alert them to potential problems and help them
identify the babies who should be called in immediately. It you would
like to see a copy of this form, I would be happy to send it to you.
Moms don't always know how to identify wet diapers.....with today's
"ultra super duper dry" diapers to prevent the poor baby from
realizing that he is wet, ( as if a newborn cares), it also makes it
difficult for the parents to tell if the diaper is wet. Also some put
tons of baby cream so that it is hard to feel the weight! I always
mention this in my class as I pass around a wet and a dry diaper for
them to feel.
The other problem is that audible tongue clicking is often mistaken for
swallowing.
I also ask about pacifier over- use and possible mis-use of silicone
shields.
We all have to be detectives in this work!!

Good luck!!

temps in the high 80's and the desparately-needed rains refuse to
happen.
